Webimo the restrictive building system of Green hell is what makes it different from other survival games. I like GH for how realistic it is, based on the background story, a lone explorer not being able to build a fortress in the wild is quite realistic. Other than that, I agree with what u said regarding the AI and custom game issues.

For the story (though you are under no obligation to be speedy), you don't even need most buildings to finish. Even on harder difficulty, if you know what you are doing. I personally prefer Surival or SoA for exploration, base building and general "just playing".
